Why A Certain Age Careers Exists
Thoughtful career support for women
navigating change later in life
Many women 40+ reach a career crossroads that feels far more complex than updating a résumé or applying for the next role.
After decades of contributing skills, knowledge, care, and experience — across workplaces, families, and communities — something shifts. Redundancy, time out of the workforce, changing health or energy, or simply the quiet sense that “what I’ve always done no longer fits” can create doubt about what comes next.
And beneath the practical questions sits something deeper:
-
Does my experience still matter?
-
Do I still belong in today’s job market?
-
Is it too late to change direction?
-
Who am I now, professionally?
Career change at this stage is rarely just about work.
It touches identity, confidence, wellbeing, and self-trust.
You Are Not Starting from Scratch — You Are Starting
from Experience
A Certain Age Careers was created specifically for women aged 40+ who want clarity, confidence, and realistic next steps — without pressure to reinvent themselves or compete in fast, hype-driven career spaces.
Here, you are not treated as a résumé problem to solve.
You are met as a whole person with lived experience, transferable strengths, and a story that still holds value.
The Kind of Support That Fits This Stage of Life
Our approach combines structured career development with counselling-informed practice.
This means we work with both the practical and emotional aspects of transition — at a pace that feels thoughtful and respectful.
We understand that confidence sometimes needs to be rebuilt before action feels possible.
We understand that career decisions may be intertwined with anxiety, identity shifts, family responsibilities, or life transitions.
And we understand that meaningful change later in life looks different than it did at 30.
A Clear and Grounded Way Forward
Through one-on-one career guidance, integrated career and counselling-informed sessions, and tailored multi-session programs, we help women:
-
Make sense of where they’ve been
-
Recognise the value of their experience
-
Rebuild confidence
-
Identify realistic opportunities
-
Take practical, achievable next steps
At A Certain Age Careers, this support is offered through three pathways — RESET (career development sessions), RENEW (integrated career + counselling-informed sessions), and REBUILD (tailored multi-session programs) — so you can start where you are and move forward at a pace that feels respectful and sustainable.
This is not about starting over.
It’s about moving forward — wisely.
Our Core Belief
You do not need to start over to create change.
Experience has value at every stage of life.
Career clarity builds confidence.
And change feels possible when support is calm, human, and specialist.
A later-life career transition may not be simple.
But it can be meaningful.
And you don’t have to navigate it alone.
Meet Your Practitioner
Hi, I’m Davida, the practitioner behind A Certain Age Careers. I’m a Career Development Practitioner with a counselling-informed approach, supporting women across Australia.
With over 20 years’ experience across career development, human resources and social work training, I understand that career transitions later in life are rarely just about work — they’re about identity, confidence, and making sense of long professional lives.
My honours research explored the experiences of women social workers in Australia through oral history interviews and archival research. That work continues to shape how I listen to and value women’s professional stories.
Alongside this, my professional work has included roles in human resources, mental health support services, and community organisations.
My approach is reflective, grounded and ethical. I integrate practical career strategy with thoughtful exploration, and I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions — or in pushing people before they’re ready.
